“The only opinion that matters is yours.”
If you would’ve told me 5 years ago that at 25, I don’t have a traditional job and I live at home, I probably would’ve stroked out. Like actually. 20-year-old Madison had a plan. She was going to marry her college boyfriend, be a top sports agent, and live in a Dallas high-rise apartment with said boyfriend. OBVIOUSLY, none of that happened, but I was pretty close to it. In order to be a top sports agent, I had the goal of attending law school. I ended up taking the LSAT twice and spending most of my savings on studying for the LSAT, taking the LSAT, and applying to law schools. It wasn’t until after ALL THAT and multiple sobbing conversations with my mom that I was finally able to admit to myself that I in fact did not want to go to law school. Like … whatsoever. I liked the idea of having a plan and being able to tell people about my plan whenever people asked. It sounded a lot better than admitting I have no idea what the hell I wanted to do. I felt like a failure. Here I am at 24 with two degrees and no plan for my life. It wasn’t until I changed my thinking around “success” that I was truly able to free myself from the limiting belief that a 9-5 career is the only way to achieve success.
I am a creative. I went to creative writing camp and poetry camp and had my own blog as a young lad. I also played the piano my whole childhood until I started playing volleyball at around 12 years old. So how does such a creative person like Moi get the idea to go to law school? This sounds so stupid now, but I was so concerned about what other people thought of me that I didn’t allow myself to follow my passions. What were people going to think when they saw my tik toks? Would they make fun of me? I thank my mom for providing me with books, people, and mediations for me to study in order for me to change my thinking and to literally step into the best version of me. Thank God, I got rejected from most if not all of the schools I applied to.
Those law school rejections were actually redirections into what I was called to do. Which is to create and connect. Create by Madison, content, and a life that I’m excited to live. Connect people with other people, ideas, and lifestyles. I literally can’t even imagine myself in an office. I’m sick. Shout out to me for having the courage to follow my passions.
This is your sign to do whatever you want to do. In the end nobody cares. The only opinion that matters is yours.
The best is yet to come!
Warmly,
Madison Louise
